Teenagers mostly see acne as another gross part of life. Part of what helps us deal with acne as teenagers is knowing that everyone else in our age group is going through the same problems. As adults we are supposed to have grown out of the frequent breakouts of our puberty years. It is partly because of this belief that so many adults are thrown for a loop when the random zit or pimple makes an appearance on their faces. Nothing makes us feel like kids again more than waking up to find that we're sporting some new spots and bumps. Worse, as an adult a lot of these spots and bumps can be very painful. Here are some things you can do to fight acne (no matter how old you are).
Keep your hair off of your face.
Hair follicles produce oil, which gets transferred to your hair and then your face if your hair is allowed to hang in your face. When you have long hair it has a way of falling in your face whether or not you want it to, which is how so many people end up with clogged pores, even as adults! Having bangs or long hair is certainly appealing, but remember to keep it pulled up off of your face if you want to prevent breakouts. There are lots of ways to keep your hair off of your face and still be stylish: braids, ponytails, headbands, clips, etc. You'll thank yourself later when your skin is clear.
Keep your hands off your face. Most people don't realize how much time their hands spend on their faces every day. The contact between our faces and our hands is partly to blame for our acne problems. Think about it for a minute. Every time you touch something and then touch your face you are transporting some of that item into your facial pores. Your hands always have a thin layer of oil on them and when you rest your face in your hands, you are transferring that oil into your pores. This is also one of the reasons colds are so easily transmitted: you touch something that has germs on it and later brush your face with your hands which gives those germs easy access to your nose, mouth and eyes--prime entry portals! Keep your hands away from your face!
If you are unable to keep your hands away from your face make sure to wash your hands often! Keep those hands clean by washing them throughout the day!
Clean your face a minimum of two times each day. Things can work their way into our pores even while we are sleeping. This is why you should have at least a light skincare routine for the mornings as well as the evenings. Most people find that a quick wash in the mornings is all they need while the evenings require a higher level of attention and care. This is one of the best ways to stay acne free!
You can choose the best method of treating your acne. One person might need a stronger cleanser while another does fine with natural options. You might even be one of the lucky few who can cure acne breakouts with a change in diet and exercise. You might not find the perfect acne remedy right away so don't be afraid to try different things. Keep at it and you will eventually find the best acne remedy for your skin. Having great skin is attainable, you just have to keep working toward it and not give up.
